Flexible Enterprise Risk Management - how to respond to emerging ‘hotspots’ in RA, fraud and related areas

About your Workshop leaders:

David King has extensive international experience in the Telecom sector, including several years in a leadership position with Ericsson’s global mobile business unit. Mark Johnson is a well known figure in the fraud and RA markets with experience as a fraud manager within Cable & Wireless and as a solution designer within several major vendor organisations. Marie Knutsson is an expert in solution design and delivery, with extensive hands-on experience of revenue assurance projects worldwide.

This workshop will run from 9:00am until 4:30pm with lunch being served from 12.00pm to 1.30pm

Agenda of the Workshop:

Session 1: Emerging issues for next generation networks

Learn how 3G, VoIP and other new technologies are affecting the nature and scope of the enterprise risk management issues we face.

  • The effect of the NGN business model
  • Future RA, Fraud and Credit scenarios
  • Developing a simple model for assessing future risks
Session 2: Practical session – using a simple risk model for assessing future threats

Participate in a practical session in which you will be asked to assess the potential risks for a short list of new telecom services and products, using the Visual Wireless ‘5T’ model for risk assessment.

Session 3: Practical demonstration of risk management (RA & fraud) controls

Hear how automated controls were implemented across an operator’s network resulting in dramatic reductions in revenue leakage, identification of major fraud cases, and the automation of the operators ‘Reporting Ladder’ for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.

About your Workshop leaders:

Ron Botes is the Head of Risk Management and Internal Audit for the Cell C Group of companies. He has worked in internal auditing for over twenty years, of which many years have been in the GSM industry.

Ruhan van den Berg is an Internal Audit Manager in the Cell C Risk Management & Internal Audit department. His prime responsibilities include the areas of Information Technology, Service Delivery and Revenue Assurance. Prior to joining Cell C, Ruhan was a consultant at KPMG where he specialised in the Media and Telecommunications industries.

Dalene Rohde is an Associate Director in the Governance, Risk and Compliance division of PricewaterhouseCoopers' Advisory practice in South Africa. She has worked for PwC for ten years specialising in risk management and internal audit services. Dalene has worked with a number of southern Africa fixed-line and mobile operators providing all aspects of risk management and internal audit services.

This workshop will run from 9:00am until 3:00pm with lunch being served from 12.30pm to 1.30pm

  • Risk from the CEO and Board perspective - what does my customer want?
  • The GSM rollercoaster - coping with a moving target
Session 2: Embedding risk management in Cell C
  • Roles and responsibilities - focus on the CEO, CRO, Risk Committee and management roles and responsibilities
  • Risk management systems criteria and solutions – high-level review of selecting a risk management software solution
  • Risk culture - embedding risk management as a key performance measure for management
Session 3: Value proposition - ensuring risk management pay off
  • Lessons learned in implementing risk management in a GSM operator environment - reviewing 'to do' and 'not to do' take away items for consideration when implementing WERM
